Four Easy Ways to Support Infant Brain Development
It may seem like infants only sleep and eat. But babies are building brain connections from the moment of birth. This is why it’s important to engage your baby in stimulating activities that support brain development.

Four Easy Ways to Support Infant Brain Development
Incorporate these four activities into your routine to help your baby learn and grow.
Talking
When you talk to your baby, you help to develop her vocabulary, even if language skills are years away. As you go about your day with your child, narrate what you’re doing, what you see, and how you feel. As your baby begins to babble, engage with her as though you are having a conversation. Soon, she’ll be talking back!
One-on-One Time
One of the most important brain boosters for your baby is one-on-one time with caring adults. Warm, responsive interactions with a parent or caregiver help create a foundation for learning that will last for life.
Playing
Play helps babies and young children develop language and listening skills, self-confidence, and physical motor skills – and the impact begins at birth! Keep it simple with games like “peek-a-boo,” nursery rhymes, space for movement, and sensory toys.
Reading
Reading to your baby is one of the most effective ways to encourage brain development. Studies show that children who were read to as newborns have a larger vocabulary and more advanced math skills than other children their age.
At New Horizon Academy, our infant program incorporates all these brain development activities – and more! Visit our website to learn more about our research-based curriculum, well-equipped classrooms, and safe school environments.
